In-the-know travelers across the continent are raving about Colombia, and finally, there's a guidebook with the information you need to safely explore it.
VIVA hired a team of journalists with several years of combined on-the-ground experience in Colombia. Their mission: to produce the most comprehensive, accurate guidebook available, no matter what your destination or budget.
Comprehensive Whether you're exploring the colonial streets of Cartagena, trekking in the rainforest to La Ciudad Perdida (the Lost City), or dancing through the night in the salsatecas of Bogota, this book is packed with all the information you'll need to get the most out of your trip to Colombia.
Safe The vast majority of Colombia's territory has become quite safe for travelers in recent years, and security is steadily improving across the country. We'll tell you where you can go safely -- we'll also let you know what areas are still too dangerous for travelers. With security risks changing constantly, VIVA is the only guidebook that can keep the pace.
Up-to-date
VIVA updates their guidebooks every six months, making it the world's most up-to-date guidebook series. Every entry is "time stamped" with the last time it was modified, so you can travel informed.
Breaking news, travel advisories and updates are also available on the vivatravelguides.com website. Your input and travel wisdom is welcome. Submit new information, and your tips may appear in the next edition of the book.
Most bookstores don't stock VIVA's books. By the time they sit on store shelves for a few months, there's already a new edition available. You'll have to buy this book online, or ask your bookstore to order it.

"The VIVA Travel Guides Colombia book is the best resource available for travelers in my country. It's nice that there's finally some positive information out there about Colombia." Christian Dojoseba, owner of the Kaffee Erde Hostal in Cali, Colombia.
About the authors
Lorraine Caputo, on her ninth trip to Colombia since 1992, spent six
months exploring the back roads to small village treasures in the Southern
and Eastern regions; journeying into the wild lands of the Guajira to
learn about the misunderstood Wayuu culture; and plowing into the jungle
and Llanos regions. Journalist and Colombia resident Richard McColl, whose
publication credits include CNN Traveler, BBC mundo.com, Newsweek and
South American Explorers Magazine, navigated the much-neglected Pacific
Coast and the Río Magdalena Valley, as well as the country’s major cities:
Bogotá, Cali and Medellín. Rookie travel writer Brenda Yun, fresh out of a
V!VA Travel Guides Boot Camp, hit the beaches in Tolú, Coveñas and classic
Cartagena, as well as the Coffee Zone pueblos Armenia, Manizales and
Pereira. Other travelers from V!VA’s online community shared their
on-the-ground Colombian experiences for the book as well.
